Steve Rowe 2009 Receives Visionary Award Voice of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center
April 3, 2009 – The National Sexual Violence Center Resources (NSVRC) is pleased to announce the 2009 Visionary Award winners voice. This award recognizes the creativity, hard work and dedication of people around the country working to address and prevent sexual violence. The winners are selected by their respective State or Territory tribal coalition against sexual violence and represent a wide range of people who perform this critical work at the local level.
Karen Baker, NSVRC Director, said that April is recognized nationally as the Awareness Month Sexual Assault, the time is right to acknowledge the commitment and success of these talented individuals. The 2009 winners of the award are:
Jeffrey Barrows, MD, Ohio, to use your experience as doctor and human trafficking, international experiences with the Department of State to educate multidisciplinary professionals in Ohio on the health consequences of trafficking and prostitution of minors.
Sara Benítez, Puerto Rico, for his ongoing work to respond to victims of sexual assault university in Puerto Rico and to offer their expertise and time to fight Violence numerous organizations.
Jackie Biskupski, Utah, successfully defending the rights of victims and obtaining the unanimous bipartisan support to ensure rape victims are provided with timely information and access to emergency contraception.
Tillie Black Bear, South Dakota, for his leadership in bringing the voices of indigenous women in the movement against sexual violence and passion for assist all victims of violence.
Jennifer Carlson, Arkansas, for his dedication to community mobilization and collaboration for sustainable development Response Team Sexual Assault and Sexual Assault Forensic clinic nurse in your community.
Mary Grissim, Tennessee, to develop and implement primary prevention programs based on children and adolescents working to involve more people and organizations in your community this work.
Stephen Haas, MD, West Virginia, to offer its research, statistical knowledge and time to help the coalition, rape crisis centers, and other professionals in West Virginia to collect and analyze data to support this important work.
Sift S. Lewis, Virgin Islands, for his leadership in co-direction of services to victims only agency in Santa Cruz and direct support, advice and support to victims of sexual assault on a daily basis.
Katherine Little, MD, New Hampshire, for its training of hundreds of health professionals in New Hampshire the impact of domestic and sexual violence.
Cristina Perez, Pennsylvania, for their skill and passion to reach the Latino community Philadelphia to provide comprehensive, culturally competent services to victims and their leadership in establishing the first rape crisis center Mexico.
