Vietnam has become the target of a new round energy investor interest in recent times. Even amid a global financial crisis many foreign telecommunications companies have been focusing attention on this most significant of Southeast Asian markets. The market is proving to be highly attractive to investors at this time. There general agreement that Vietnam has emerged from a period of wishful thinking – based on the belief that they could "go it alone." The government has overseen the introduction a modest level of competition in the telecommunications market and this, combined with a general improvement in economic climate in the country, has led a round of strong growth in the telecommunications sector.

More recently the move to allow a higher level of 'equitisation' (The word of the Vietnamese government for the "privatization") has sent a clear message to investors that the rules are changing in a positive way and is the investment door opened. An important milestone in this changing business Vietnam's accession to the WTO in 2007, one could say that amounts provided formal confirmation of the changes that had taken place. Not yet entirely clear, however, what form of government involvement in the telecommunications sector will the future. A little surprising development in Vietnam has been the cross-interest in telecommunications.

While there has been strong growth in telephone sector Vietnam Mobile (nearly 70 million subscribers in early 2009, 80% penetration), the country's growth sets the subscriber line has not been as impressive. With the government appears to be a little on the fixed coverage statistics, this market segment has been struggling to some extent in recent years. It seems that the growth has flattened.

Meanwhile, the government continues to demonstrate a certain ambivalence about the Internet, the reluctance of the government has not, however, Internet market left at least begin to move along a path of solid growth. Internet users penetration stood at a whopping 25% in early 2009, with segment increasingly 'hot' this broadband market expanded at an annual rate of around 50%.
