Buying consumer electronics in Singapore?
I live in AUSTRALIA and will be going to Singapore next month. Whilst there I am interested in buying a portable music player and mobile phone, given that the exchange rate is level and the prices much cheaper (or so I hear).
There is one problem however, if I were to buy a portable music device (say an iPod) and/or a mobile phone whilst in Singapore would the device work in Australia (eg. are the power plugs different, are the home power supply voltages different, is there an issue with mobile phone networks etc.)
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Nick
I have a phone my partner purchased in Singapore. It should work fine in Australia as far as voltage goes, you’ll just need to get a universal powerpoint adaptor (a couple of bucks from places like Dick Smith or Tandy).
Word of warning though, the electronics aren’t really that much cheaper in Singapore – and if you think about warranty, etc it may be better to buy in Aussie, or you may aswell be buying it on eBay.
Support Aussie and buy local! There’s not much difference.
