The Lasting Solutions To Ezillo/ezza War Unveiled
We need peace, yes! We need it. The long concerted silence has to be broken. War is an unwise decision that does no man any good. The inferno of 10th May 2008 in Ezillo and the Ezza in Ezillo would have been averted if it were pre-meditated and known by the two clans that it will reach to this level. The crises have done evil to this generation and more to come if we do not fight for peace. This article is a good avenue calling for the understanding of the two communities for peace to reign.
The incessant recalling of the causes and the effects of the war at this particular moment in time that peace is highly needed is not requisite because it has increased the ordeals of the people in the state.
Firstly, it has made the well being of the people so excruciating, life becomes awful, citizens suffer of no food, no water as a result of the man made disaster. Old parents who could not match the conditions of the war died on the process. Gun sounds hauled as if it turns building upside down like during the Biafran war. Many shrieked and developed goose pimple, frailty and died. The euphoria of the state democratic season winkled in the thin air. The people wander up and down in the street of refugee communities.
The rich developed poverty like wings, everybody bask on the door of hardship, no school for children, and no good environment to enhance relaxation and excitement. The people counted losses like where a child counts one, two, three. Youths became jobless and dormant only faced with the scorching and fiery season,” the war”. The married men could no longer have their genital organs erected to impregnate their wives and so there were no procreations. The only succeeded pregnancies got missed through miscarriages owing to the shock from the gun nozzles. Marriage vanished like a gradual disappeared aircraft in the sky. Children grow stunt like palm head for lack of good foods for adequate growth. Sporadic shootings every day and night; men and women being lavished as if we are in the Middle East. The gateway Local Government suddenly turned to the lock way Local Government. The water basins of the state became dried automatically due to destructions. Homelessness became the order of the day. The peaceful nature of Ebonyi state turned to war precinct.
Fear of movement, speech, and commercial activities griped all men. No means of traveling in and out of the state any longer. War, you are so catastrophic!
Way out: Brethren, violence, destructions, killings, and maiming of human lives and properties can never solve any conflict. Round table conference and dialogue still remain the best to achieve peace. Let the two parties shun anarchy and embrace peace. The more war is engaged, the more nothing meaningful is achieved. The visible three hundred and fifty million naira (N350m) invested to hunt human heads and for destruction due to political reasons would have been used to change many lives and enhanced human and material development with reciprocate of appreciation.
Obviously, the government has set the ball rolling by making a well public-embraced declaration, which has remain the last resort for the two brothers, and so they have to opt for it. May the government be obeyed. Ezillo, disregard the sacrifices and comply with the government order while the Ezzas on their own side also should forget the sacrifices and should relocate to the ceded land or alternatively be settled at their ancestral vast homeland of “Onueke”. This removes or adds nothing to the two brothers.
Lives and properties have been destroyed and wasted, YES! But there must be an element of sacrifice, forgiveness and understanding to maintain sanity. Please do not transfer this aggression to unborn generation to come. It is better to end it now and keep life moving than to be moving with war and agony. Let the passed be forgotten and the hatchet be buried. The lives of the innocent people and that of the future of the dear children should not be used as a price for one’s political career.
Now that the federal government through the Inspector General of the Police has engaged the stakeholders of the two parties into peace patio, let there be an observance of what is on ground and swap to peace and understanding to gulp down this uproar.
May we extend our hands of gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for their kind gesture for their swift response as they value the lives of the common commuters, the people of Ebonyi state and its environ.
PRAYERS: The whole Ebonyians and the good people of the state also advocate that you use some parts of the disputed land for (mobile police) MOPOL base, as Ebonyi state has none.
Also, the Ebonyi state government should speedily implement the contents of the white paper issued on 2nd October 2008 by deploying bulldozers to the buffer and disputed area and graze off everything, including all the hideouts of the miscreants to make everywhere visible for the police to work as the houses there have been vandalized by the hoodlums. On the part of the government also, sacrifices have to be meted by building houses to the displaced parties with regards to the government declared statement of 2nd October 2008. This will help restore peace in the area permanently.
Secondly, it is a candid plea to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to please run to the displaced citizens of Nigeria who are perishing in the neighbouring villages of Ezillo over the incident of Ezillo crises. Those souls need aids in all manner of human and material source to mainly the children, old men and women, and the pregnant ones. This will forestall the severe suffering of our innocent persons in the area.
Finally, as elections are around the corner, let not this conflagration be lingered, as it is detrimental to tranquility during the 2011 general election. Please let nobody be a cog to this wheel of progress already recorded so far in Ezillo. This unending communal and political entanglement has to be arrested. We Ebonyians plead for peace and understanding by the two beloved brothers.
My fellow youths, what benefit do you get from using your heads to pay for the self-esteemed politicians whose interest only is to terminate you for their personal growth. Using the youths to perpetuate evil. Let us eschew militancy and think of positive things to utilize our life in.
To the neighboring states, we deeply regret all the hassles caused by the tumult.
May God of peace in His infinity mercy forgive and give us love, understanding and divine serenity. Amen!
