Microsoft fired his last shot on Monday (02-15-1010) against competitors like Apple and Google in the battle for the market for cell phone software. Windows Phone Series 7 presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will be on the phones before the end of the year and is a complete rewrite of the Windows Mobile operating system. Windows Phone Series 7 is the successor to the operating system of Microsoft Windows Mobile phone.

The visual and underlying differences in the operating system are too numerous to mention, including a complete (and I mean everything) turned user interface, a touch screen input emphasis on finger-based, deep integration social networks, fully qualified and expansive Zune and Xbox hardware components and strict requirements for members. A couple familiar touchstones from the past include Outlook and plans for support of the Office as well as licenses for a wide variety of third-party hardware – despite the name change, Microsoft has not yet been built no phone itself.

Part of what makes Windows Phone Series starting July 1 for Microsoft is that the company is taking a much greater role in dictating the hardware can run the operating system. While we have not seen an actual device produced by a manufacturer at retail (the demo unit shown is a prototype board that is charged the Garmin-Asus, but not a device that could never reach the market), Microsoft has a very clear picture of what they want these units are built as. However, while the company is establishing the rules of the game in an attempt to create a more consistent experience across phones, that does not mean no variety. You'll see variation in the devices (yes, some with and some without a keyboard), but there will be a much more constant in nature Windows phone 7 terminals in the series. Here's a look at some of the minimum detailed specifications for us so far:
Great WVGA screen with a simple aspect ratio (Which means BlackBerry-style devices are not readily available to start)
Five specific hardware buttons: Home, of new search (one button Bing), camera button, and power – neither more nor less
capacitive multitouch
Requirements CPU and GPU (starting with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor at launch)
WiFi
AGPS
Accelerometer
FM Radio
High Resolution
As noted, Microsoft is showing off OS unbranded prototype hardware. It is a phone with a simplistic slate capacitive touch screen 3.7 inches, appears to be a front camera (a point we have not heard the sound off on company still) … and not much else. We still have a lot of questions unanswered in the hardware, not only about the camera, but the storage specification, not whether we will be able to use microSD or some form of removable storage and how we go about connecting these devices to our laptops.
