This could be the next big monopoly?
Recently, Apple released the highly anticipated iPhone. The next generation of portable devices complete with MP3 player, Video / Movie player, Internet access and cell phone. It is obvious that the way the launch was conducted by the Right Bat this new device would be a success. But at what cost?
Reports of iPhones ranging between five and six hundred dollars per device was not enough to get away from the thousands across the country that were in line to be one of the first to get their hands on one of these. Although most people waiting in line for only few hours, there were several die-hards who waited for a day or two, like a Hollywood premiere or after a concert in the course of life.
Once the doors opened, the excitement intensified, but the enthusiasm was short for many when they learned that they were required to register with a service plan with AT & T. Many chose to get the iPhone anyway, and several attempts to get to work with your mobile operator by replacing the SIM card of their mobile existing. Everything to know that AT & T is the only cellular operator that is compatible with the iPhone.
If that's not enough, you have to set through Apple too. You need an iTunes account, whether you like it or not. So far, more than half a million iPhones have been sold to nearly fifty percent of new buyers who choose to switch your service to AT & T. That's more users for them and less for others.
A monopoly is defined as a market in which there are many buyers but only one seller. "When you have a monopoly you can ask any price you like right now, and in the immediate future, it seems that if you want the best new device on the market, Apple and AT & T have cornered the market. No other wireless service provider will work with the iPhone and now, not many other devices, even similar. But that will not last long.
Verizon is not sitting. Coming after the iPhone. Have a few new smartphones PDA out. The LG KE850 is very similar to the iPhone, and has the touch screen as well, but not incorporated into storage. Despite this, they offer many of the same characteristics that can be found in the iPhone.
Samsung has updated the i730 to the i760 and changed the design of a horizontal slider phone, compared with control vertical slider. Samsung has another PDA that comes out of this year, the Samsung F700. Have a similar design to the iPhone, but have a horizontal slider keyboard. Will its own unique operating system. I'm not sure how it will be functional, but I doubt it will stand almost as Windows Mobile software as much as it does.
So, maybe for now, Apple and AT & T could have a monopoly, but will not be long before other providers and device manufacturers to launch phones your next new and larger. What news could possibly think? Only need to remain vigilant.
