Windows Mobile Tips
Windows Mobile is a very powerful system that allows smart phones almost the same functionality as the mainframe. One just needs to learn some common tricks to make the best use of it. Then I'll try to describe the most useful features that are available Windows Mobile or you can add to it.
1. Copying and moving files in Windows Mobile.
Because you can not view multiple windows simultaneously on mobile devices, you can not copy (move) files by dragging from one window to another. But there is a simple way to make using Windows copy and paste. First, select the file you want to copy or move files in Explorer, then select Menu-> Edit-> Copy (or Cut). Then open the folder you want to copy the file and select the menu Edit -> Paste. That's it, the file is copied (or moved) to the new location.
2. What to do if there is enough storage space to install a new application.
If you receive a "Not enough storage" message when trying to install a new application, it may seem that there is indeed enough storage on your phone. What happens is that the storage required to install a application is approximately double the space occupied by the application itself. This is because to install a program, first the installation file must be copied to the phone memory, where it occupies space. After completing the installation, this file can be deleted. But what to do if there is plenty of space for the application and its installation file? In this case one can use the phone's memory card. If the installation file has an extension *. cab file (a file storage) only with a copy to the memory card and run it from there. In the event that the installation file is an executable (*. exe) to be executed in PC, do the following:
– Connect your mobile device to PC via cable or Bluetooth connection
– Run the installation *. exe in PC
– After a while you will see a message "Please check your mobile device to see if additional steps are required to complete this installation "Then watch the phone, but do not follow the instructions you see there. Instead start the File Explorer and find the installation file. It should be a *. cab file located in My Documents.
– Copy it to the storage card (see above how to copy files in Windows Mobile).
– Then open the Task Manager and change the installation screen. Now you have to finish the installation process by clicking Cancel. The *. cab files are automatically deleted main memory, but you will have a copy of it to the storage card.
– Run the *. cab storage card to complete the installation.
Before installing a new application, it is useful to check the My Documents folder to see if age *. cab files remained from previous installations. You can delete all files if found.
3. Backup your phone automatically, locate your lost and do more with Microsoft ® My Phone.
With the new service called Microsoft ® My Phone, available for Windows Mobile 6.x and later, you can backup automatically phone, ring your lost phone (even if the ringer is turned off) and do useful things.
4. Use your Windows Mobile phone as an access point WiFi.
Mobile Wi-Fi Router is a program that converts Windows Mobile Phone into a WiFi access point to connect your laptop to the Internet. Alternatively, you can par Windows Mobile device with your laptop via Bluetooth to establish a connection to the Internet. In that case no additional software is required, only need a laptop to configure the use of mobile phone as a modem. I have described in detail in my previous article.
5. Writing text in multiple languages.
In touchscreen phones, you can use an onscreen keyboard to enter text in multiple languages. In my experience, Hikeyboard is the best program of its kind. Unlike other on-screen keyboards, does not stop working by accident, also contains provisions for many different languages, can be installed simultaneously.
6. How to find SMS text messages.
There is no search function built into Windows Mobile messaging applications. To search for specific text in the SMS messages you can use SmartphoneFind 2.0. This program can search a text string within any particular category of data, such as SMS and email messages, contacts, appointments, tasks, etc.
7. Print documents stored on your phone.
All kinds of documents on your Windows Mobile device, such as emails, faxes, SMS messages, Word documents, etc, can be printed using a program called PocketWhere. This program can use the WiFi network printers, so you do not need cable.
These are just a few simple tricks for Windows Mobile which I hope can make your life a little easier and can help make better use of your smartphone.
