The socio-cultural and economic life of Festac Town
Festival of otherwise commonly known as the city FESTAC is the largest single housing Estate in Nigeria and perhaps the whole of West Africa. The farm is derived from the name of the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) held in Nigeria in 1977.
The participants of this festival were housed in this heritage, originally built for this purpose. The sponsor is the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) created by Decree (Law), No. 40 of the Federal Government of Nigeria to help provide access to affordable housing to Nigerians therefore, the mission statement of the Federal Housing Authority which is:
"To be the leader in providing affordable quality housing in Nigeria and do everything possible to facilitate home ownership for all Nigerians "
The Federal Housing Authority is the developer of the city, the management and maintenance lies with them. Festac consists of seven communities and occupies an approximate area of 1770 hectares. (4425 acres)
Festac town is situated at a distance of about 10 km west of Lagos-Badagry expressway which forms the southern boundary of the city. The artificial channel that receives the stormwater Festival City and is now part of the lake forms the boundary between the city and the system housing Amuwo Odofin Lagos State Development and properties of the Corporation (LSDPC) in the eastern part (see Planning Monograph Research and the Department of Housing, Federal Housing Authority, 1985)
Festac Town in West shares a common border with the fair and approximately 2,500 feet north Badagry road. The city is served by major road that makes the city easy access, distribution traffic is therefore guaranteed. Infrastructure including sewerage, stormwater drainage, electricity, public lighting.
Festac Town was originally established with great respect for the social life of the community to prospective residents. This explains the presence of club staff FHA, FHA Lawn Tennis Club, Club Festac etc BAFT city residents through the community of an association called Association Festac residents of the city. Block, Close, roads will also maintain regular meetings where we discuss the welfare of residents. The youth of the city are full of life and in recent times are known to organize "carnivals" annually, most notably those of 22 roads, 512 Road and 721, among many others. The occupants of the city of Festac projects have been launched as a result of self-help as city residents Festac Association, digging wells, sinking of boreholes, the safety of the city etc.
The method used to cushion Festac Town in the Badagry Express way of other developments is the channel but the structures have begun to emerge in this buffer zone.

Festac Town has shown signs of deterioration of infrastructure, general congestion, population explosion, lack of strict compliance with master plan proposals, spaces reserved for green areas have been allocated for the erection of buildings and other structures. Mr. Babtunde Fashola, SAN Governor of Lagos State recently came up with policies and suggestions on how the city would recover the height of its glory. Other suggestions were also made by participants at a symposium marking the 30th anniversary of the city.
Festac Town now serves as residential and commercial. In the years of the military (1983-1993) large number of magnificent private homes were built by individuals in the areas now known as "Cocaine" Avenida Some of these areas are 21 Extension Road, 3rd Avenue Extension, part of the 4th Avenida, Calle 41 and Route 400.
